On Saturday night, Eric Stults (4-13) will look to start his month of August off to a 2-0 start when he and the San Diego Padres face Francisco Liriano (3-7) and the Pittsburgh Pirates.

Last Friday, Eric Stults was able to pick up his first win in nearly a month when he defeated the Atlanta Braves at home. He pitched six innings in that start and allowed just one unearned run on two base hits while walking four batters and striking out three. His ERA is now 4.94 on the year and he has given up 134 hits in 116.2 innings.

Pirates outfielder Andrew McCutchen has a hit in both of his at-bats against Stults with a walk and a double. Shortstop Jordy Mercer is hitless against him in three at-bats with one strikeout.

Veteran left-hander Francisco Liriano pitched six innings against the Arizona Diamondbacks on Sunday and ended up with a no decision. He allowed just two runs on four hits in that outing while striking out six and walking one. He has only given up 87 hits in 101.1 innings this season and he now has a 3.91 ERA.

Outfielder Jeff Francoeur has faced Liriano more than any of the other Padres, but he is just 2-for-15 against him with seven strikeouts. None of the Padres have been able to hit a home run off of the lefty in 36 combined at-bats.
