Friday night, Andrew Cashner and the San Diego Padres will face Bartolo Colon and the New York Mets.  It will be Cashner’s 11th start and Colon’s 13th.

Andrew Cashner pitched to his 2nd straight no-decision his last time out and that kept his record at 2- 5 with a 2.13 ERA.  He allowed 2 hits and a walk as he struck out 5 in 6 scoreless innings of work.  The two straight no-decisions show some improvement after 4 straight losses.  And after getting some rest on the disabled list with a sore elbow, Cashner should continue to offer the Padres some decent innings. Last season, Cashner went 10 – 9 with a 3.09 ERA in 26 starts and 5 relief appearances. 

In 2013, Cashner pitched just 2.2 innings of relief against the Mets and allowed only a hit and a walk while striking out 2. He has only faced 7 of the Mets before but he has held them to a .182 batting average with 4 hits, 2 home runs and 2 RBIs in 22 at-bats.

Bartolo Colon got a no-decision in his last outing and that held his record to 5- 5 with a 4.31 ERA.  In that start, Colon surrendered 3 runs on 8 hits in 5.2 innings of work.  He walked 2 and struck out 4.  Prior to the no-decision, Colon had won his last 3 starts.  The seemingly ageless right-hander posted an 18 - 6 record and a 2.65 ERA in 30 starts for the Oakland A’s last season.

In 2013, Colon didn’t face the Padres but he has seen many of their hitters during his long career.  Carlos Quentin is 3 for 4 with a double against Colon.
