Veteran Ian Kennedy will be getting the start for the San Diego Padres when they face rookie left-hander Tyler Matzek and the Colorado Rockies on Monday night.

Last Tuesday, Ian Kennedy pitched six innings against the Cincinnati Reds and was able to pick up his sixth win of the year. He gave up just one run in those six innings of work and walked one batter while striking out five. Kennedy now has a 6-9 record this year with a 3.87 ERA and he has been able to strike out 116 batters in 109.1 innings.

Rockies infielder Josh Rutledge is 5-for-13 against Kennedy with a three walks, a double and an RBI. Shortstop Troy Tulowitzki has just a .231 batting average in 26 at-bats against Kennedy, but he has hit three home runs off of him.

Left-hander Tyler Matzek pitched 6.1 innings in his start against the Washington Nationals last week, but he had to settle for the no decision in a game the Rockies won 4-3. He gave up three runs in that outing and walked one while striking out six. Through five starts, he is 1-2 with a 4.25 ERA and he has only walked seven batters in 29.2 innings.

The Padres will be facing Matzek for the first time on Monday night. He has yet to give up a home run to a left-handed hitter and has held them to a .654 OPS.
