Ian Kennedy will be pitching for the San Diego Padres on Wednesday night when they face Cincinnati Reds ace Johnny Cueto.

Ian Kennedy had his most dominant outing of the season last week against the Miami Marlins, but he ended up with his second no decision instead of the win. He pitched seven very strong innings in which he only gave up one run on four hits and struck out a season-high 12 batters. He may have a 2-4 record, but his 3.12 ERA suggests he's been pretty unlucky so far this season.

Kennedy has not done well against Skip Schumaker over the years, getting hit eight times in the outfielder's 19 at-bats against him. The right-hander has done well against Brandon Phillips, though, by holding him to just one hit in 13 at-bats.

Johnny Cueto has arguably been the best pitcher in the National League this season and he continued his trend of going deep into games when he got the no decision against the Colorado Rockies last Friday. He pitched eight innings in the game and struck out eight batters while giving up two earned runs on five hits. His 1.43 ERA is in the top five in the NL.

Chase Headley is 7-for-15 with two doubles against Cueto, while Everth Cabrera has just one hit in eight at-bats against him. Will Venable has two hit home runs off of Cueto in his career.
