Tuesday night, the San Diego Padres and Andrew Cashner will face the Cincinnati Reds and Mike Leake.  Cashner will be making his 9th start as Leake makes his 8th.  

Andrew Cashner took his 4th straight loss in his last start and it dropped his record to 2 – 5 with an ERA of 2.86.  In that outing, Cashner surrendered 4 runs on 7 hits in just 4 innings with 2 walks and 4 strikeouts.  Last season, Cashner posted a record of 10 – 9 with an ERA of 3.09 in 26 starts and 5 relief appearances.

In 2013, Cashner lost his only start against the Reds with an ERA of 5.40.  Cincinnati’s Joey Votto could be an issue for Cashner as he is 2 of 3 with a triple and 2 RBIs against the right-hander.

Mike Leake pitched to a no decision in his last outing and that left his record at 2 – 3 with a 3.40 ERA.  It was a solid start for Leake as he only surrendered 2 runs on 8 hits in 7 innings as he walked 2 and struck out 4.  In 2013, Leake was 14 – 7 with a 3.37 ERA in 31 starts. 

 Last season, Leake didn’t get a decision in his 2 starts against San Diego despite an impressive 0.64 ERA.  In 14 innings of work, Leake gave up just 2 runs on 10 hits.  He has done well against the Padres in the past and should be able to get a win this time around.
