On Thursday, July 24, the San Diego Padres will face off with the Chicago Cubs in the final game of their three game series. The Padres will send Tyson Ross (8-10, 2.70 ERA) to the mound opposite Edwin Jackson (5-10, 5.61 ERA) of the Cubs.

In his last outing Tyson Ross came out swinging and pitched seven shutout innings on Saturday when he faced the New York Mets. He finished the game having thrown 103 pitches while striking out six batters and only giving up four hits. Although his win/loss record isn't conducive to an All-Star pitcher, Ross has been pitching well and will look to continue this trend as he faces the Cubs.

Ross hasn't faced many Cubs in his career but of the five batters he's faced, he's gotten out of it without giving up a hit.

Edwin Jackson will be looking to get back in the win column on Thursday. Jackson gave up three runs on seven hits over 5.1 innings on Friday when faced the Arizona Diamondbacks. Jackson hasn't had a win in over a month and the Cubs are hoping the Padres will be the cure.

Over his career, Jackson has given up a .378 batting average against the Padres and has surrendered seven home runs. Seth Smith has played well against Jackson in his seven at bats with three hits and two RBI.
