Right-hander Ian Kennedy will be on the mound for the San Diego Padres when they face rookie Tsuyoshi Wada and the Chicago Cubs on Wednesday night.

In his first start following the All-Star break, Ian Kennedy gave up four runs in five innings against the New York Mets and ended up with a no decision. He allowed six hits in that outing while striking out four batters and walking three. Kennedy is currently 7-9 on the year, but he probably deserves more wins considering that he only gets 2.83 runs of run support per nine innings.

Cubs veteran Nate Schierholtz has six hits in his 21 at-bats versus Kennedy with a double, two home runs and seven RBI. Luis Valbuena is just 1-for-13 against him in his career with two walks and five strikeouts.

Tsuyoshi Wada made his first Major League start on July 8 for the Cubs and finished with a no decision. In five innings of work that day, Wada gave up just one unearned run on five hits while walking one batter and striking out three. He threw 58 of his 87 pitches for strikes in that game and induced eight ground balls.

In the minors this year, Wada was 10-6 with a 2.77 ERA and he gave up just 104 hits in 113.2 innings on the mound. He also struck out 120 and only walked 2.2 batters per nine innings.
