Big right-hander Tyson Ross will be going for his sixth win of the season on Monday night when the San Diego Padres go up against Brandon McCarthy and the Arizona Diamondbacks.

Last Wednesday, Tyson Ross picked up his fourth loss of the season against the Minnesota Twins, but he definitely deserved a better fate after giving up just one run in seven innings of work. He gave up just three hits in that outing and struck out eight while walking three. He now has a very solid 2.64 ERA and has given up just 54 hits in 64.2 innings while striking out 61.

Paul Goldschmidt has gotten four hits in 11 at-bats against Ross in his career with a triple, two home runs and three RBI. Martin Prado has just two hits in 10 at-bats against the right-hander.

Brandon McCarthy ended up with a no decision in his start against the St. Louis Cardinals last week after giving up just one run in six innings. He scattered seven hits in that outing and struck out three while walking two. His 4.67 ERA is a bit high for him, but he is striking out more batters than he ever has in his career.

Jedd Gyorko has zero hits against McCarthy in 11 at-bats and has struck out four times, while veteran Carlos Quentin is 3-for-6 against him with a double.
