23-year-old Gerrit Cole will try to win his eighth game of the season for the Pittsburgh Pirates on Wednesday night when they take on Lance Lynn and the St. Louis Cardinals.

Last weekend, Gerrit Cole pitched five scoreless innings against the Philadelphia Phillies and came away with his seventh win of the season. He gave up just one hit in that outing and struck out five batters while walking one. Cole is 7-4 through 14 starts for the Pirates this season and he has struck out 78 hitters in 85.2 innings.

Cardinals third baseman Matt Carpenter has three hits in his seven at-bats against Cole with a home run and two RBI. Outfielder Matt Holliday is 5-for-6 against him with a walk, a double and an RBI.

Lance Lynn pitched very well against the Miami Marlins last Friday and ended up winning his ninth game of the year. He went 6.2 scoreless innings in that start and gave up just five hits while striking out six hitters and walking three. Lynn has struck out 97 batters in 108 innings this season and has only given up six home runs.

Pirates outfielder Starling Marte has been able to get six hits in his 15 at-bats against Lynn with two doubles and a triple. All-Star Andrew McCutchen has only been able to get four hits against him in 26 at-bats and has been struck out by the right-hander 10 times.
