Vance Worley will try to continue his great start for the Pittsburgh Pirates when they take on right-hander Carlos Martinez and the St. Louis Cardinals on Tuesday night.

Vance Worley made his fourth start of the season for the Pirates last week and ended up suffering his first loss of the year. He pitched seven innings in that game and gave up three runs on just four hits while striking out six batters and walking two. In 27.2 innings, Worley has a 2.28 ERA and he has only given up 21 hits.

Cardinals infielder Matt Carpenter has a hit in all three of his at-bats against Worley with a double and two RBI. Allen Craig is just 1-for-6 against him with two strikeouts.

Carlos Martinez pitched five innings of one-run ball against the San Francisco Giants on the road last week and came away with his second win of the season. He gave up just five hits in that outing and walked one batter while striking out six. In 53 innings of work, Martinez has struck out 46 hitters and has only given up two home runs.

Switch-hitting second baseman Neil Walker has one hit in three at-bats versus Martinez and is the only player on the Pirates who has hit a home run off of him. Pedro Alvarez is 0-for-4 against the young right-hander with two strikeouts.
