On Tuesday, Pittsburgh Pirates left-hander Francisco Liriano will attempt to win just his third game of the year when he faces veteran Tim Hudson and the San Francisco Giants.

Last week, Francisco Liriano was finally able to pick up his second win of the season when he beat the Los Angeles Dodgers at home. In seven innings of work that day, he allowed just one run on four hits while walking two batters and striking out four. He is now 2-7 on the year with a 4.18 ERA, but he has been able to strike out 93 batters in 88.1 innings.

Giants outfielder Hunter Pence has three hits in his four at-bats against Liriano with two walks, two doubles and an RBI. Gregor Blanco is just 1-for-7 against the lefty with an RBI and two strikeouts.

Tim Hudson gave up just two unearned runs to the Philadelphia Phillies last Thursday, but he still ended up losing for the seventh time this year. He allowed eight hits in that outing and struck out six batters while walking two. On the season, Hudson is now 8-7 for the Giants with a very good 2.65 ERA and he has only given up a total of seven home runs in 132.1 innings.

Pedro Alvarez is 4-for-13 against Hudson in his career and is the only player on the Pirates who has been able to hit a home run off of the right-hander. Gaby Sanchez is just 4-for-22 against him with two strikeouts.
