On Wednesday, May 28, the Pittsburgh Pirates will face the New York Mets in the final meeting of a three game series. The Pirates will send Charlie Morton to the mound while the Mets will send Bartolo Colon to the mound.
Charlie Morton is coming off his first win of the season when he faced the Washington Nationals on Friday. He pitched 5.2 innings and gave up one earned run and five hits while striking out four and walking four. Morton has had a rough go so far this season. His 1-6 record isn’t indicative of how he’s pitched because he hasn’t had the run support other pitchers have had. His 3.29 ERA is a better indicator. Morton will try to go for two in a row when he faces the Mets.
Current Mets players are hitting .375 against Morton as a team. Over 56 at bats, the Mets have 21 hits with two home runs and 13 RBI’s.
Bartolo Colon is coming off his third win of the season putting him at 3-5 for the season with a 5.34 ERA. Colon hasn’t pitched since May 17 when he faced the Washington Nationals and went eight innings giving up two earned runs and five hits. He also struck out five batters while walking just one. The win dropped his ERA a half point. Colon will look for his fourth win on Wednesday.
Colon has been hit well when he faces the Pirates. As a team, Pittsburgh is hitting .341. Andrew McCutchen is just 1-for-4 against Colon so he’ll look to have a better outing on Wednesday.
