On Friday night, Jeff Locke (4-3) will try to keep his undefeated month of August going when he and the Pittsburgh Pirates face off against veteran Yovani Gallardo (8-6) and the Milwaukee Brewers.

Jeff Locke ended up with a no decision against the Washington Nationals last Saturday despite pitching 5.2 scoreless innings in that game. He gave up four hits in that outing and struck out six batters while walking two. Locke now has a 3.73 ERA following that game and he has only walked 19 batters in 91.2 innings this season.

Brewers All-Star Carlos Gomez has five hits in his 11 at-bats against Locke with a double, a home run and four RBI. Shortstop Jean Segura is 2-for-12 against him with a home run and two strikeouts.

Yovani Gallardo was able to pick up his second win in a row last Saturday when he beat the Los Angeles Dodgers on the road. He gave up just one run in eight innings of work that day while walking one batter and striking out three. His ERA is now down to 3.32 on the year and he has given up just 0.9 home runs per nine innings.

Pirates outfielder Andrew McCutchen is 15-for-49 against Gallardo in his career with three doubles, a triple and three home runs. Pedro Alvarez is just 2-for-29 against him with six walks and 12 strikeouts.
