Sunday night, the Pittsburgh Pirates will send Edinson Volquez to the hill to take on the Los Angeles Dodgers and Zack Greinke. It will be Volquez’s 11th start and 12th appearance as Greinke makes his 12th start.

Zack Greinke continues to impress this season and he picked up another win in his last start, taking him to an 8 – 1 record with a 2.18 ERA.  In that outing, Greinke surrendered 3 runs on 8 hits (including a home run) in 7.2 innings. He didn’t issue any walks while striking out 11.  Greinke is well on the way to matching last season’s record of 15 – 4 with a 2.63 ERA in 28 starts.

In 2013, Greinke pitched to a no decision in his only start against the Pirates after allowing 6 runs on 7 hits (including 2 homers) in 5 innings.  In his career, he has held the Pirate lineup to a .215 average. With the way that he is pitching, he should have no trouble in this start.
