Edinson Volquez will hope to win his fifth game in six starts for the Pittsburgh Pirates on Sunday afternoon when he faces Franklin Morales and the Colorado Rockies.

Edinson Volquez gave up five runs in 5.2 innings against the Los Angeles Dodgers last Monday and ended up suffering his seventh loss of the season. He allowed 10 hits in that outing and walked three batters while striking out three. Volquez is now 8-7 through 20 starts and his 5.9 strikeouts per nine innings is his lowest strikeout rate since 2006.

Rockies catcher Wilin Rosario has eight hits in 20 at-bats against Volquez with a double, two home runs and nine RBI. Carlos Gonzalez is batting .526 against him in 19 at-bats with three doubles and two triples.

Franklin Morales also lost his last start when he was beaten by the Washington Nationals at home. He pitched six innings in that start and gave up four runs (three earned) on nine hits while walking four batters and striking out three. Morales is now 5-5 with a 5.21 ERA and he has given up 106 hits in 93.1 innings of work.

Pirates catcher Russell Martin has three hits in his eight at-bats against Morales and he is the only Pittsburgh player who has hit a home run off of the left-hander. Chris Stewart is 0-for-4 against him with one strikeout.
