Monday night the Pittsburgh Pirates will give the ball to Wandy Rodriguez as the Cincinnati Reds start Homer Bailey.  Both pitchers will be making their third starts of the season.

Wandy Rodriguez is still seeking his first win of the season after two rough outings.  In his last start, Rodriguez gave up 4 runs on 9 hits (including 2 home runs) in 5 innings.   The poor start to the season is just a continuation of the last two seasons for Rodriguez.  In 2013, he was 6 – 4 in 12 starts with an ERA of 3.59. 

In 2013, Rodriguez faced Cincinnati once and he lost that start with an ERA of 2.57.   He has seen the Reds’ lineup numerous times and will be looking out for Joey Votto.  Votto is 19 of 54 with 4 doubles, 2 triples, a home run and 6 RBIs.

Homer Bailey is also still looking for that first victory of the season.  His last outing was a disaster for him as he blew the lead by giving up 4 runs on 9 hits in 5 innings.  Fortunately for him, he didn’t get a decision. Last season, Bailey went 11 – 12 in 32 starts with a career best ERA of 3.49. 

Bailey was brutal against the Pirates last season, going 0 – 3 in 4 starts. In 23 innings, he surrendered 13 runs on 20 hits.  Pittsburgh’s Andrew McCutchen has seen Bailey 37 times and he has 11 hits and 11 walks in those plate appearances.
