On Sunday afternoon, second-year starter Brandon Cumpton will be on the mound for the Pittsburgh Pirates when they go up against Jason Hammel and the Chicago Cubs.

On Tuesday, Brandon Cumpton gave up three earned runs in six innings against the Cincinnati Reds and ended up with a no decision in a game the Reds eventually won 6-5. He gave up eight runs in that game and walked just one while striking out four. Through seven starts, Cumpton is 2-2 with a very high 5.82 ERA and he has give up 50 hits in 38.2 innings of work.

Cubs shortstop Starlin Castro is hitless in three matchups against Cumpton with no walks and a strikeout. Luis Valbuena is 3-for-3 against him with a double and no strikeouts.

Big right-hander Jason Hammel picked up a no decision last Monday against the Miami Marlins on the road. He pitched six innings in that outing and allowed four runs on eight hits while striking out a season-high nine batters and walking just one. Hammel is 6-4 this season with a solid 3.02 ERA and he has only given up 72 hits in 89.1 innings.

Pirates All-Star Andrew McCutchen has five hits in 17 at-bats against Hammel with a double, two home runs and three RBI. Pedro Alvarez has just three hits in 15-bats against Hammel, but he has also hit two home runs off of him.
