Edinson Volquez (12-7), who has a 1.37 ERA in four starts this month, will be on the mound for the Pittsburgh Pirates when they face David Hale (4-4) and the Atlanta Braves on Thursday night.

Edinson Volquez pitched seven scoreless innings against the Milwaukee Brewers last Saturday, but all he could get out of that outing was a no decision. He gave up just three hits in that game and walked three batters while striking out six. Volquez now has a 3.15 ERA and he has only given up 162 hits in 185.2 innings on the mound.

Braves outfielder Ryan Doumit has seven hits in 15 plate appearances against Volquez in his career with a double and three RBI. Speedster Emilio Bonifacio is hitless in seven at-bats against the right-hander with one walk and two strikeouts.

David Hale hasn't made a start for the Braves since back in June. Since then, he has stuck around in the bullpen and has done pretty well. On the year, he has a 3.27 ERA as both a starter and reliever, and he has walked 35 batters while striking out 40 in 82.2 innings on the mound.

Pirates first baseman Ike Davis is hitless against Hale, but he does have two walks against him with one RBI. None of the other Braves have gone up against the right-hander more than once.
