On Sunday afternoon, Francisco Liriano (3-7) will be going for his third straight win when he and the Pittsburgh Pirates go up against Trevor Cahill (1-8) and the Arizona Diamondbacks.

In his start against the San Francisco Giants on Tuesday, Francisco Liriano pitched seven strong innings and was able to pick up his third win of the year. He allowed just one run on four hits in that start and struck out a season-high 11 batters while walking one. Liriano has a 3.97 ERA on the season, but he was 2-1 with a 1.96 ERA in July.

Diamondbacks outfielder Mark Trumbo only has three hits in 14 at-bats against Liriano, but two of those hits were home runs. Andy Marte is just 1-for-6 against him with two walks and three strikeouts.

Right-hander Trevor Cahill lost his second game in a row on Tuesday when he was beaten by the Cincinnati Reds on the road. He went six innings in that game and allowed three runs on seven hits while striking out three and walking zero. His 5.59 ERA is the highest of his career and he has given up 66 hits in 56.1 innings this season.

Pirates third baseman Pedro Alvarez has hit a home run off of Cahill, but that is his only hit in seven at-bats against him. All-Star Andrew McCutchen has three hits in five at-bats against the right-hander with a double and 2 RBI.
