31-year-old Edinson Volquez (8-7) will make the start for the Pittsburgh Pirates when they take on Vidal Nuno (0-2) and the Arizona Diamondbacks on Friday night.

Edinson Volquez didn't pitch very well against the Colorado Rockies on Sunday, but he ended up with a no decision rather than a loss. He lasted 4.1 innings in that start and allowed four runs (two earned) on six hits while walking four and striking out two. On the year, he now has a 3.87 ERA and he has only been able to strike out 78 batters in 121 innings.

Diamondbacks third baseman Paul Goldschmidt has seven hits in 14 at-bats against Volquez with a home run and four RBI. Veteran outfielder Gerardo Parra is just 3-for-18 against him with a walk and three strikeouts.

Vidal Nuno lost his seventh game of the year on Sunday when he was beaten by the Philadelphia Phillies on the road. He lasted 6.2 innings in that start and allowed four runs (two earned) on four hits while walking three batters and striking out five. Nuno now has a 4.97 ERA on the season and he has already given up 19 home runs.

Pirates outfielder Josh Harrison has one hit in three at-bats against Nuno with a double and a strikeout. None of the Pirates have faced the left-hander more than three times in their careers.
