Tuesday night, David Buchanan takes the hill for the Philadelphia Phillies as they square off against Jordan Zimmerman and the Washington Nationals. Buchanan makes his 3rd start as Zimmerman makes his 12th.

David Buchanan took his first career loss the last time out and he comes into this game with a 1 - 1 record and an ERA of 3.86.  The rookie right-hander gave up 4 runs on 7 hits (including a home run) in 6.2 innings of work in his last start as walked 2 and struck out 2.   As long as starter Cliff Lee is still out, it’s expected that Buchanan will continue to get a few more starts in the big leagues.

If Buchanan sticks to the talent and skill that got him to the big leagues, he should be able to handle the Washington lineup.

Jordan Zimmerman pitched to a no-decision his last time out and that means he will come into this start with a 3 – 2 record and an ERA of 4.07.  In his last outing, Zimmerman gave up 4 runs on 8 hits in 5 innings with a walk and 3 strikeouts. It’s been a tough season so far for Zimmerman and he looks nothing like the pitcher that went 19 – 9 with an ERA of 3.25 in 32 starts during last season.

In 2013, Zimmerman was 3 – 1 with a 2.63 ERA in 4 starts against the Phillies.  But the Philadelphia lineup will be a tough test for Zimmerman as most of them have hit the right-hander well in the past.
