Wednesday night, the Toronto Blue Jays and Mark Buehrle will face the Philadelphia Phillies and Cliff Lee. Buehrle will make his 7th start of the season as Lee makes his 8th. 

Mark Buehrle started the season on a tear and he continued to impress with his last start.  Buehrle improved his record to 5- 1 with a 2.25 ERA after a 6.2 inning effort where he give up 3 runs on 7 hits with 2 walks and 4 strikeouts.   The numbers are on pace to surpass last season’s 12 – 10 record and 4.15 ERA in 33 starts.

In 2013, Buehrle didn’t pitch against the Phillies but he has squared off against many of the Philadelphia hitters in his long career.  Philadelphia’s Jayson Nix has hit Buehrle well in the past, with a .375 average, 2 home runs and 4 RBIs in 16 at-bats.

Cliff Lee pitched to a second straight no decision in his last start, which left his record at 3 - 2 with a 3.00 ERA.  In that outing, Lee pitched a strong 7 innings and surrendered just 2 runs on 4 hits (including a homer) with 2 walks and 5 strikeouts.   Last season, Lee was 14 - 8 with an ERA of 2.87 in 31 starts.

In 2013, Lee didn’t get to face the Blue Jays but he has experience against many of Toronto’s hitters. Toronto’s Steve Tolleson has been successful against Lee, going 3 of 5 with a home run and 4 RBIs off of the veteran left-hander.
