Veteran left-hander Cole Hamels (8-7), who has a 1.86 ERA in his last three starts, will take the mound for the Philadelphia Phillies on Wednesday when they face Eric Stults (7-16) and the San Diego Padres.

Cole Hamels pitched well enough to get the win over the Miami Marlins in his start last Friday, but all he ended up with was a no decision. He gave up just one run in seven innings of work that day while walking one batter and striking out six. Hamels currently owns a solid 2.51 ERA and he has struck out 178 batters in 182.2 innings this year.

Padres outfielder Cameron Maybin is 10-for-29 against Hamels in his career with four doubles and a triple. Outfielder Will Venable has just one hit in six at-bats against the lefty with a walk and three strikeouts.

Eric Stults was able to pick up a rare win last Friday when he defeated the Arizona Diamondbacks on the road. He gave up five runs (two earned) on seven base hits in that game, while walking one batter and striking out two. Stults has a 4.49 ERA on the year and he has given up 10.1 hits per nine innings, which is his worst rate since 2007.

Phillies shortstop Jimmy Rollins has four hits in 11 at-bats against Stults in his career with a home run and three RBI. Outfielder Marlon Byrd is 4-for-11 against him with two doubles and three RBI.
