On Tuesday, A.J. Burnett (8-16) will make the start for the Philadelphia Phillies when they face San Diego Padres right-hander Ian Kennedy (10-13), who has lost two consecutive starts.

Last week, A.J. Burnett gave up four runs in six innings against the Pittsburgh Pirates and ended up suffering his league-leading 16th loss of the season. He allowed six hits in that outing while striking out seven hitters and walking three. Burnett now has a 4.34 ERA and he has walked 3.8 hitters per nine innings this year.

Padres outfielder Will Venable has seven hits in his 16 at-bats against Burnett with a double, two home runs and four RBI. Rene Rivera is just 3-for-14 against him in his career with a walk and five strikeouts.

In his last start, Ian Kennedy lost his second game in a row when he was beaten by the Los Angeles Dodgers on the road. He gave up three earned runs in six innings of work in that start and walked one batter while striking out five. Kennedy has a 3.77 ERA after that loss and he has struck out 189 batters in 181.1 innings this year.

Phillies outfielder Marlon Byrd has five hits in his 18 at-bats versus Kennedy with two home runs and seven RBI. Veteran first baseman Ryan Howard is 2-for-15 against him in his career with no walks and four strikeouts.
