Rookie right-hander David Buchanan (6-7) will attempt to win his first game since August 6 for the Philadelphia Phillies on Friday night when they go up against Jon Lester (15-10) and the Oakland Athletics.

David Buchanan had his winless streak extend to seven games on Sunday despite pitching really well against the Miami Marlins. He went 6.1 innings in that start and gave up just one earned run on five hits while walking one batter and striking out two. His ERA is now 3.75 and he has only been able to strike out 65 batters in 105.2 innings this season.

Buchanan will be getting his first chance to take on the A's on Friday night. So far this season, right-handed hitters are batting .292 against him in 240 at-bats, while left-handed hitters have just a .207 average against him in 169 at-bats.

On Sunday, Jon Lester won his second game in a row when he was able to beat the Seattle Mariners on the road. He gave up zero runs in six innings of work that day while striking out seven batters and walking four. Lester has struck out 206 hitters in 205.2 innings this year and he has an excellent 2.45 ERA.

Phillies infielder Freddy Galvis has two hits in three at-bats against Lester with a home run and two RBI. Marlon Byrd is just 1-for-11 against him in his career with no walks and five strikeouts.
