On Friday May, 9, the Philadelphia Phillies will face the New York Mets. The Phillies will send Roberto Hernandez to the mound to face off with Jenrry Mejia in a NL East showdown.

Hernandez threw a gem when he faced the Washington Nationals on May 4. Hernandez ended the night throwing 7.1 innings of four hit, no run baseball. He struck out three and walked three in the win which put his record at 2-1 with a 4.50 ERA on the season. Hernandez hadn’t had a win since early April and hadn’t pitched particularly bad. He just didn’t get the support he would have hoped to in those games.

Hernandez will be facing a team he hasn’t pitched many times against, however, new Met Curtis Granderson has terrorized Hernandez in his career. Granderson is 17-for-45 in his career against Hernandez with three doubles, three triples, three home runs and six RBIs. Hernandez is hoping Granderson doesn’t break out of his early season woes quite yet.

On the mound for the Mets will be Jenrry Mejia who was bailed out with a no decision on May 3 when he surrendered eight runs on nine hits through 4.1 innings against the Colorado Rockies. Mejia is currently holding a record of 3-0 with a 5.23 ERA.

It might not get much easier for the 24 year old righty when he faces the Phillies. Out of the eight current Phillies Mejia has faced, he has given up seven hits on 14 at bats. He’s surrendered three extra base hits and struck out four.
