Friday night, David Buchanan (6 – 7, 4.21 ERA) gets the call for the Philadelphia Phillies as they take on Jacob deGrom (6 – 6, 3.13 ERA) and the New York Mets.  Buchanan makes his 15th start as deGrom makes his 18th.

David Buchanan didn’t get the decision in his last start despite a relatively decent outing from the rookie right-hander.  In 5 innings of work, Buchanan allowed 2 runs and 8 hits (including a home run).  He walked 2 batters but didn’t strike out anyone.  Buchanan has been shaky at times but he has battled to a 5 - 4 record in his last 10 starts.  At Triple-A Lehigh Valley this season, Buchanan was 5 – 1 with a 3.98 ERA in 9 starts.

Buchanan has made 2 starts against the Mets this season but he was unable to beat New York in either of those outings and will bring an 0 – 2 record into this start.

Jacob deGrom took the loss after getting knocked around in his last start.  deGrom gave up 5 runs and 5 hits (including a home run) in 6 innings of work.  He walked 2 and struck out 7. Prior to the loss, deGrom hadn’t been on the losing end of a decision since early July.  In his last 10 outings, he is 6 - 2. Before the Mets called him up, deGrom was 4 – 0 with a 2.58 ERA at Triple-A. 

deGrom has only faced the Phillies once this season and he didn’t get the decision in that start after allowing 3 runs and 3 hits (including a home run) in 6.1 innings of work.
