Philadelphia Phillies veteran A.J. Burnett will look to win his sixth game of the season when he faces Henderson Alvarez and the Miami Marlins on Tuesday night.

Last Wednesday, right-hander A.J. Burnett pitched pretty well against the Miami Marlins, but he ended up suffering his seventh loss of the year. He pitched seven innings in that outing and allowed three runs on five hits while striking out eight and walking three. Burnett now has a 3.89 ERA this season and he has been able to strike out 85 batters in 11 innings pitched.

Marlins veteran Jeff Mathis has three hits in seven at-bats against Burnett in his career with a double and three RBI. Derek Dietrich is the only player on the Marlins who has hit a home run off of Burnett.

Henderson Alvarez won his second consecutive game last week against the Philadelphia after giving up two runs (one earned) in 6.2 innings. He allowed seven hits in that outing and walked two batters while striking out three. Through 16 starts, Alvarez is 5-3 with an excellent 2.32 ERA and he has only given up four home runs on 101 innings.

Ryan Howard is just 2-for-8 against Alvarez in his career, but he is the only player on the Phillies to hit a homer off of him. Second baseman Chase Utley is 4-for-10 against Alvarez with a double, two walks and an RBI.
