Sunday afternoon, the Philadelphia Phillies will take the field behind David Buchanan as they face the Cincinnati Reds and Homer Bailey. Buchanan will make his 4th start as Bailey makes his 13th.

David Buchanan took his 2nd straight loss in his last outing and that dropped his record to 1- 2 with a 6.11 ERA.  In his last start, Buchanan was torched for 7 runs and 10 hits (including 2 home runs) in 6 innings of work.  He walked 2 while striking out 6 as his ERA rose by almost 2 and a half runs.  After winning his Major League debut, Buchanan has taken a beating and until Cliff Lee returns, Buchanan will have to find a way settle down and give the Phillies some quality innings.

Without any experience against the Reds, Buchanan will have to study that scouting report hard to find a way to get past Cincinnati.

Homer Bailey picked up his 3rd straight win in his last start and that boosted his record to 6 – 3 with a 4.99 ERA.  In 6 innings of work, Bailey surrendered 3 runs on 5 hits (including a home run).  He walked a batter while striking out 7.  Bailey is on pace to post better results than last year’s when he went 11- 12 with a 3.49 ERA in 32 starts.

In 2013, Bailey pitched to 2 no-decisions in his 2 starts against the Phillies despite pitching 15 scoreless innings and allowing only 7 hits and a walk while striking out 13.  This season, Bailey took a loss after getting torched by the Phillies for 6 runs on 7 hits in 3.2 innings.
