Wednesday afternoon, Roberto Hernandez gets the call for the Philadelphia Phillies as they take on Aaron Harang and the Atlanta Braves.  Hernandez will be making his 13th start and 16th appearance as Harang makes his 15th start.

Roberto Hernandez lost his 3rd straight start his last time out and that dropped his record to 2 – 5 with a 4.26 ERA.  In that outing, Hernandez surrendered 2 runs on 3 hits (including a homer) in 5.2 innings of work.  He walked 2 and struck out 5.  Hernandez wasn’t that bad but he didn’t get any run support.  He seems to be headed for another season like the one he had in Tampa Bay in 2013 when he went 6 - 13 with a save and a 4.89 ERA in 24 starts and 8 relief appearances.

Last season, Hernandez didn’t face the Braves but he has gone up against them this season. He didn’t get a decision against Atlanta after allowing 2 runs on 4 hits (including a home run) in 6 innings as he walked 6 and struck out 3. 

Aaron Harang evened his record to 5 – 5 with a 3.20 ERA after getting the win in his last outing.  In that start, Harang allowed just a run on 4 hits in 6 innings as he walked 3 and struck out 2.  Harang has already matched his win total of 2013 when he went 5- 12 with a 5.40 ERA in 26 starts for the New York Mets and the Seattle Mariners.

Last season, Harang didn’t face the Phillies but he is familiar with their lineup.  He might want to pitch around Chase Utley because Utley is batting .455 with a homer and 5 RBIs when facing the veteran right-hander.
