On Friday night, veteran right-hander A.J. Burnett will make his first start of the second half when he and the Philadelphia Phillies go up against Ervin Santana Atlanta Braves.

Last week, A.J. Burnett had a good outing against the Washington Nationals and was able to pick up his sixth win of the season. He lasted 7.2 innings in that game and gave up just two earned runs on five hits while walking four batters and striking out six. Burnett now has a 6-8 record with a 3.83 ERA, but he is striking out far fewer batters than he did last year.

Braves outfielder Jason Heyward has four hits off of Burnett in 11 at-bats with a home run and two RBI. Veteran second baseman Dan Uggla is just 2-for-13 against him with a home run and six strikeouts.

In his last start, 31-year-old Ervin Santana gave up four runs to the New York Mets in seven innings of work and ended up taking his sixth loss of the season. He allowed six hits in that outing and struck out four batters while walking two. Santana has only given up nine home runs in 110 innings this year, but he is walking more batters and his strikeout rate is down from last season.

Phillies outfielder Marlon Byrd has not been able to figure Santana out over the years, going just 6-for-34 against him with one walk and 11 strikeouts.
