Oakland Athletics - Kazmir, S (5-1) vs. Toronto Blue Jays - Dickey, R (4-4)

Friday evening, the Oakland Athletics and Scott Kazmir will take on the Toronto Blue Jays and R.A. Dickey. Kazmir will be making his 10th start as Dickey makes his 11th.

Scott Kazmir didn’t last long in his previous outing after getting ejected after only 1.1 innings of work. Kazmir argued balls and strikes with the home plate umpire and that led to him getting the hook.  Even in the short outing, he didn’t look good as he gave up a run on a hit with 3 walks and only 1 strikeout.   In 2013, Kazmir was 10 - 9 with a 4.04 ERA in 29 starts for the Cleveland Indians. 

Last season, Kazmir didn’t face the Blue Jays but he has faced many of their hitters before.  Toronto’s Melky Cabrera is batting .409 against Kazmir with a home run and 3 RBIs.

R.A. Dickey saw his record fall to 4 – 4 and his ERA rise slightly to 4.20 after taking the loss in his last start.  In that outing, Dickey gave up 4 runs on 3 hits (including a homer) in 6.1 innings with 3 walks and 3 strikeouts.  Until this loss, Dickey had won 2 straight.  Last season, Dickey was 14 - 13 with a 4.21 ERA in 34 starts.

In 2013, Dickey started 2 games against the A’s but didn’t factor into the decision of either game.  In his career, he has done well against the A’s with Oakland batters hitting .253 with a home run and 7 RBIs in 83 at-bats.
