Tuesday night, the Oakland Athletics will take the field behind Scott Kazmir as they take on the Texas Rangers and Martin Perez.  Both pitchers will be making their 6th starts of the season. 

Scott Kazmir has been solid for the A’s with a 3 – 0 record and an ERA of 1.62 in his 5 starts. His last outing was a 6 inning effort where he gave up a run on 5 hits with 2 walks and 7 strikeouts.  Kazmir has been very effective at keeping the ball down this season as well as avoiding walks.  In 2013, Kazmir went 10 – 9 with an ERA of 4.04 in 29 starts with the Cleveland Indians. 

Last season, Kazmir lost his only start against the Rangers as he allowed 4 runs on 8 hits in 6 innings.  Texas’ Alex Rios has a homer and 5 RBIs against him. 

Martin Perez has been amazing for the Rangers so far with a 4 – 0 record and an ERA of 1.42.  In his last start, Perez gave up 3 hits and 2 walks while striking out 3 in a complete game shutout.  This season, Perez is getting batter to hit a lot of ground balls and that is helping him.  In 2013, he went 10 – 6 with an ERA of 3.62 in 20 starts. 

Last season, Perez was 1 – 1 with an ERA of 2.70 in 2 starts against the A’s. Oakland’s Josh Donaldson has done well against him with a .400 average, 1 home run and 2 RBIs.
