Big right-hander Jason Hammel (2-6), who has a 2.38 ERA this month, will get the start for the Oakland Athletics when they face Colby Lewis (10-14) and the Texas Rangers on Thursday night.

Jason Hammel's last start for the A's was on September 12 when he took the loss against the Seattle Mariners on the road. He gave up three runs in five innings of work that day while walking one and striking out six. Hammel currently owns a 3.54 ERA and has given up 7.9 hits per nine innings this season.

Rangers outfielder Alex Rios is 7-for-23 against Hammel in his career with a double, a home run and seven RBI. Catcher J.P. Arencibia has just three this in 15 at-bats against Hammel with a walk and five strikeouts.

Last Saturday, Colby Lewis had a rough start against the Los Angeles Angels on the road and finished with a loss. He pitched five innings in that game and gave up eight runs (seven earned) while striking out three hitters and walking one. Lewis has given up a whopping 205 hits in 163.1 innings this year and he now has a 5.34 ERA.

A's shortstop Jed Lowrie has five hits in 14 at-bats against Lewis in his career with a home run and two RBI. Coco Crisp has six hits in 25 at-bats against him with five walks, two doubles and four strikeouts.
