Big right-hander Jason Hammel (2-5), who has a 1.66 ERA in his last three starts, will take the mound for the Oakland Athletics on Friday when they go up against James Paxton (5-2) and the Seattle Mariners.

On Sunday, Jason Hammel pitched pretty well against the Houston Astros in what ended up being a no decision for him. He went 6.2 innings in that game and gave up two runs on five hits while striking out seven hitters and walking one. Hammel currently has a 3.55 ERA and he has struck out 142 batters in 162.1 innings on the mound.

Mariners All-Star Robinson Cano has 12 hits in his 34 at-bats versus Hammel with two doubles, a home run and five RBI. Corey Hart is just 1-for-9 against him in his career with no walks and three strikeouts.

Second-year starter James Paxton lost his second game of the year on Sunday when he was beaten by the Texas Rangers on the road. He did give up just one run in six innings of work that day while walking two and striking out three. Through nine starts, Paxton has a 1.87 ERA and he has only given up 41 hits in 53 innings.

Earlier this season, A's outfielder Craig Gentry has two hits in three at-bats against Paxton with no strikeouts. All-Star Josh Donaldson was 0-for-3 against him with a strikeout.
