Big right-hander Jeff Samardzija will be making his second start for the Oakland Athletics when they face Seattle Mariners ace Felix Hernandez on Friday night.

Jeff Samardzija made his first start for the A's the day after he was traded to them and came away with a strong start and the win. He pitched seven innings against the Toronto Blue Jays and gave up just one run on four hits while walking one and striking out five. Samardzija has only given up 103 hits in 115 innings this season while striking out 108 batters.

Outfielder Logan Morrison has three hits in nine at-bats against Samardzija and is the only player on the Mariners who has hit a home run off of the right-hander. Veteran Endy Chavez is hitless against Samardzija in three at-bats with three walks.

Felix Hernandez pitched eight solid innings against the Chicago White Sox on the road last Saturday, but he had to settle for the no decision. He gave up two runs on just three hits in that outing while walking one and striking out eight. Hernandez is currently 10-2 on the year with an excellent 2.11 ERA and he has struck out 145 batter sin 136.1 innings.

A's All-Star Brandon Moss has nine hits in his 29 at-bats against Hernandez with two doubles, a triple and a home run. Outfielder Yoenis Cespedes is just 6-for-30 against him with 10 strikeouts.
