Tuesday night, Scott Kazmir gets the call for the Oakland Athletics as they take on Bartolo Colon and the New York Mets.  Kazmir makes his 16th start as Colon makes his 15th.

Scott Kazmir won his 3rd straight game in his last outing and that boosted his record to 9 – 2 with a 2.08 ERA.  In that start, Kazmir went 7 innings and allowed just 2 runs on 4 hits (including a homer).  He didn’t issue any walks while striking out 8.  In his last 5 starts, Kazmir has 4 wins and a no-decision and has already nearly matched his win total of last season. In 2013, Kazmir was 10 – 9 with a 4.04 ERA in 29 starts for the Cleveland Indians.

Last season, Kazmir won his only start against the Mets behind 6 innings of shutout ball where he allowed just 4 hits while striking out 12.  Most of the Mets only have 1 or 2 hits off of Kazmir but Bobby Abreu has 4 hits in 11 at-bats against the veteran lefthander.

Bartolo Colon took his record to 7 - 5 with a 3.88 ERA after winning his 2nd straight game in his last start.  In the win, Colon threw 8 innings and gave up just a run (on a solo homer) and 4 hits without a walk while striking out a batter.  Colon has won 5 of his last 6 with the other game being a no-decision.  The 41 year-old could challenge his numbers from 2013 when he went 18 – 6 with a 2.65 ERA in 30 starts for the Oakland A’s.

Colon will face his former team with some experience against many of their hitters. Alberto Callaspo has opposed Colon the most with a .269 average, a home run and 3 RBIs in 26 at-bats.
