Sunday afternoon, the Oakland Athletics will give the ball to Tommy Milone as they take on the Miami Marlins and Andrew Heaney.  It will be Milone’s 15th start and Heaney’s 3rd.

Tommy Milone escaped with a no-decision in his last start and that left his record at 5- 3 with a 3.98 ERA.  Milone was torched for 5 runs and 8 hits (including 2 homers) in just 5 innings of work.  He walked a batter while striking out 3.  Milone was 12 – 9 with a 4.14 ERA last season in 24 starts and 2 relief appearances.

In 2013, Milone didn’t face the Marlins and he has only opposed 4 of their hitters in the past.  He’s allowed a hit apiece to Jeff Mathis and Giancarlo Stanton, who also has an RBI.

Andrew Heaney took his 2nd loss in as many starts and comes into this one with a 0 – 2 record and an ERA of 4.91.  Heaney’s ERA jumped nearly 2 and a half runs after he allowed 5 runs on 4 hits (including a home run) in just 5 innings of work.  He struck out 5 as he walked 2.   Heaney’s 2nd start in the Majors was rough and he didn’t look like the pitcher that was 3 – 0 with an ERA of 2.74 in 4 starts for Triple-A New Orleans before getting summoned to Miami.

Without any experience against the A’s, Heaney will have to rely on the information in the scouting report and any help he can get from the rest of the pitching staff.
