The American League West is one of the trickiest to pick the winner of and two of the top teams with the most talent are the Oakland Athletics and Los Angeles Angels. These two teams will meet on Monday night at Angel Stadium of Anaheim with Jesse Chavez getting the start for Oakland, while the home team will counter with Hector Santiago.

Chavez, the 30-year-old from California has spent most of his career pitching in relief. He made the first 2 starts of his career in 2012 with the Toronto Blue Jays and has started off this season by throwing 2 quality performances. He hasn’t recorded a decision as of yet, but has allowed just 2 earned runs on 11 hits and 2 walks with 13 strikeouts in 13 innings. Chavez has had mixed success against the current roster of Angels, as they have gone 14-for-35 against him. Albert Pujols and Erick Aybar have led the way, both going 3-for-4 in their career.

Santiago is another pitcher who has spent most of his career in the bullpen, but has more experience as a starter than his counterpart. He hasn’t pitched as well this season as Chavez, as he has given up 8 earned runs on 12 hits and 6 walks in 9 1/3 innings, going 0-2. Against the current roster of Athletics, Santiago has allowed 9 hits in 38 at-bats. Yoenis Cespedes and Coco Crisp are the only Oakland players with a home run off him.
