Wednesday night, the Oakland Athletics will give the ball to Tommy Milone as they face the Los Angeles Angels and Tyler Skaggs.  Milone will make his 2nd start of the season as Skaggs makes his 3rd.

Milone’s first start of the year resulted in a loss after he gave up 5 runs on 10 hits in 5 innings of work.   Last season, Milone started 26 games and appeared in an additional 2 games for the A’s as he went 12 – 9 with an ERA of 4.14. 

In 2013, Milone started 4 games against the Angels and he came away with a 3 – 1 record and a 4.07 ERA. In 24.1 innings, Milone gave up 23 hits and 14 runs.  Milone will have to watch Josh Hamilton and Howie Kendrick.  Both of them are 9 for 20 with 2 home runs.   Hamilton has 5 RBIs while Kendrick has 7 RBIs.

Tyler Skaggs didn’t get the decision in his last start after a 7 inning effort where he gave up 4 runs on 9 hits with 4 strikeouts and no walks.   Skaggs didn’t get many starts in his first 2 major league seasons, with 6 in 2012 and 7 in 2013 while playing for the Arizona Diamondbacks.  But his ERA is moving down and his pitch count is steady and those are good signs.  

In 2013, Skaggs didn’t get to face the A’s and his experience with their lineup is minimal.  He has only faced 2 hitters in Oakland in 3 at-bats with only a walk given up.
