On Monday night, Oakland Athletics starter Jesse Chavez will be taking his 5-3 record up against 5-2 Garrett Richards and the Los Angeles Angels.

Jesse Chavez went six innings against the New York Yankees last week and ended up picking up his fifth win of the season. He allowed four runs on seven hits in that game while walking two and striking out five. The Athletics' offense has really stepped up this season when Chavez has been on the mound, scoring 6.14 runs per nine innings in games that the right-hander starts.

Veteran Raul Ibanez has just one hit in eight at-bats against Chavez with a walk and two strikeouts. Former MVP Albert Pujols is 5-for-7 against him with a home run and three RBI.

Last Wednesday, Garrett Richards had his best start of the season when he went weight scoreless innings against the Houston Astros. In that win, he gave up just four hits and walked no one while matching his season-high in strikeouts with nine. Richards has only given up 59 hits in 74.2 innings this season and has struck out 73 batters.

First baseman Brandon Moss is one player on the A's who has always liked facing Richards, going 7-for-17 against him with three doubles, two home runs and seven RBI. Alberto Callaspo is hitless against the right-hander with three strikeouts in his career.
