Left-hander Jon Lester (13-8), who has a 2.60 ERA in five starts since being trade to the Oakland Athletics, will take on Jered Weaver (14-7) and the Los Angeles Angels on Friday night.

Last week, Jon Lester pitched seven strong innings against the Los Angeles Angels, but all he got out of that start was a no decision. He allowed one run on five base hits in that start while walking one batter and striking out seven. Lester now has an excellent 2.53 ERA on the year and he has struck out 181 hitters in 177.2 innings of work.

Angels outfielder Josh Hamilton is 7-for-27 against Lester in his career with a home run and three RBI. Gordon Beckham is just 2-for-18 against him with two walks and six strikeouts.

Jered Weaver gave up three runs in 6.2 innings against the Oakland Athletics on the road on Sunday and picked up his 14th win of the season. He allowed eight hits in that game while walking no one and striking out eight. Weaver has given up just 161 hits in 174.1 innings this year and now has a 3.72 ERA.

A's infielder Alberto Callaspo has six hits in his 16 at-bats versus Weaver in his career with a double, a triple, a home run and three RBI. All-Star Josh Donaldson is just 1-for-11 against him with two RBI and one strikeout.
