Sonny Gray (12-5) will be hoping that he can snap his two-game losing streak when he and the Oakland Athletics take on Yordano Ventura (9-8) and the Kansas City Royals on Monday night.

Last Wednesday against the Tampa Bay Rays, Sonny Gray pitched a season-low 4.1 innings and ended up taking the loss. He gave up seven runs (six earned) on 10 hits in that game while walking four batters and striking out three. Gray still has a very good 2.87 ERA on the season and he has only given up 128 hits in 150.1 innings of work.

Veteran Raul Ibanez is the only player on the Royals who has hit a home run off of Gray, but he is just 2-for-10 against him overall with two strikeouts. Outfielder Nori Aoki is 1-for-3 against Gray with a double.

Yordano Ventura had a solid outing against the Arizona Diamondbacks last week and came away with his ninth win of the year. He went six innings in that game and gave up two runs on eight base hits while walking one and striking out eight. Ventura has struck out 110 batters on 127 innings this year and his ERA is now down to 3.47.

The A's will be getting their first chance to go up against Ventura on Monday night. At home this season, he has held opposing batters to a .252 batting average with a .684 OPS.
