Big right-hander Jeff Samardzija (4-5) will try to end his two-game losing streak when he and the Oakland Athletics take on rookie Chris Bassitt (0-1) and the Chicago White Sox on Wednesday night.

Last Friday, Jeff Samardzija pitched seven innings against the Houston Astros at home and ended up taking the loss. He gave up four runs on six hits in that start while walking no one and striking out nine. He now has a 3.21 ERA on the year after that loss and he has given up just 168 hits in 190.2 innings.

White Sox shortstop Alexei Ramirez only has two hits in his 12 at-bats against Samardzija with a double and four strikeouts. Dayan Viciedo is just 1-for-8 against him with no walks and three strikeouts.

Chris Bassitt made his first start for the White Sox on August 30 when he was beaten by the Detroit Tigers at home. He gave up five runs in 6.1 innings of work that day while striking out four batters and also walking four. Bassitt has a 7.36 ERA in 7.1 innings of work this year and he has already hit two batters.

All of the A's hitters will be going up against Bassitt for the first time on Wednesday night. Left-handed hitters are batting .333 against him so far this season, while right-handed batters have a .267 average against him.
