Sunday afternoon, Scott Kazmir gets the call for the Oakland Athletics as they square off against Ubaldo Jimenez and the Baltimore Orioles. Both pitchers will be making their 13th trips to the hill. 

Scott Kazmir pitched to a no-decision in his last outing and that left his record at 6 - 2 with an ERA of 2.40.  Despite the lack of a decision, Kazmir pitched well and gave up just 2 runs on 6 hits (including a home run) in 6.1 innings of work.  Kazmir walked 2 while striking out 10. His numbers this season give him a great shot at improving on last year’s numbers when he went 10 – 9 with a 4.04 ERA in 29 starts for the Cleveland Indians. 

In 2013, Kazmir pitched to a no-decision in his only start against the Orioles after allowing a run on a hit in 7 innings of work.  But this time around, Kazmir would be wise to watch out for Nick Markakis.  Markakis is batting .417 against Kazmir with 2 homers and 7 RBIS.

Ubaldo Jimenez pitched to his second straight no-decision in his last start and that held his record at 2- 6 with an ERA of 4.39.  In 5.2 innings of work, Jimenez surrendered a run (on a solo homer) on 4 hits with 4 walks and 5 strikeouts.  Jimenez would have to pitch spectacularly the rest of the season to have a chance at matching 2013’s results when he went 13 - 9 with a 3.30 ERA in 32 starts for the Cleveland Indians. 

Last season, Jimenez was 2- 0 with a 2.38 ERA in 2 starts against the A’s.  And overall he has pitched well against the A’s, holding them to a .215 average with 14 hits, 2 home runs and 6 RBIs in 65 at-bats.
