On Monday night, David Phelps will attempt to win his third consecutive game when he and the New York Yankees go up against Texas Rangers All-Star Yu Darvish.

Right-hander David Phelps pitched well in his five innings of work against the Texas Rangers last week and came away with his fifth win of the year. He allowed just one run on five hits in that start and struck out three batters while walking no one. On the season, Phelps is now 5-4 with a 3.77 ERA for the Yankees and he has struck out 86 hitters in 100.1 innings.

Rangers catcher J.P. Arencibia has hit a home run off of Phelps, but he is just 1-for-11 against him overall in his career. Third baseman Adrian Beltre is 3-for-6 against the right-hander with one RBI.

Last Wednesday, Yu Darvish pitched 4.1 innings against the New York Yankees on the road and ended up suffering his sixth loss of the year. He allowed two runs on four hits in that game and walked no one while striking out five. Darvish is currently 9-6 with a 2.92 ERA for the Rangers and he has struck out 11.3 batters per nine innings, which leads the league.

Darvish's countryman Ichiro Suzuki has seven hits against him in 19 matchups with a double, a triple and two RBI. Brendan Ryan is just 1-for-10 against him with a walk and two strikeouts.
