On Wednesday night, Brandon McCarthy (6-4) will look to put together another solid September start when he and the New York Yankees face right-hander Alex Cobb (9-7) and the Tampa Bay Rays.

Brandon McCarthy ended up with a no decision in his start against the Baltimore Orioles last week despite pitching seven scoreless innings. He gave up just four hits in that game and struck out six batters without walking anyone. McCarthy now has a 3.98 ERA on the year and he has only walked 32 batters in 187.2 innings of work.

Rays catcher Jose Molina has three hits in his 10 at-bats against McCarthy with a double and two strikeouts. Outfielder Matthew Joyce is just 1-for-11 against him with a walk and five strikeouts.

Last Thursday, Alex Cobb pitched 7.1 solid innings against the New York Yankees on the road and finished with a no decision. Cobb gave up just one run on one hit in that outing while walking two hitters and striking out four. He has a very good 2.75 ERA this season and has only given up nine home runs in 147.1 innings.

Yankees first baseman Mark Teixeira is 4-for-11 against Cobb in his career with a home run and two RBI. Veteran outfielder Ichiro Suzuki has just three hits in 20 at-bats versus Cobb in his career with no walks and three strikeouts.
