Monday night, Chris Capuano (2 -3, 4.90 ERA) takes the mound for the New York Yankees as they take on Jake Odorizzi (10 -12, 4.08 ERA) and the Tampa Bay Rays.   It will be the 10th start and 38th appearance for Capuano and the 30th start for Odorizzi.

Chris Capuano was lit up in his last outing but escaped with a no-decision.  In just 0.1 innings of work, Capuano gave up 4 runs on 4 hits while walking 2 and striking out just 1.  It was his worst outing of the year and the shortest since coming over to the Yankees from the Boston Red Sox.  Capuano has made all of his 9 starts this season for the Yankees and is just 1 -2 in those outings.  Last season, he went 4 – 7 with a 4.26 ERA in 20 starts and 4 relief appearances for the Los Angeles Dodgers.

Capuano was roughed up in his only start against the Rays in 2013.  He allowed 6 runs and10 hits in 4.1 innings but fortunately missed getting the decision.  He is 0 – 0 in a start and 2 relief appearances against Tampa Bay including his last outing.

Jake Odorizzi took a beating his last time out and he ended up taking the loss.  Odorizzi surrendered 6 runs on 5 hits (including 2 homers) in just 4.1 innings.  He walked 3 and struck out 2.  Odorizzi has been good and bad this season and after 2 really good starts, he was real bad in his last.  In his last 10 outings, he is 5 – 4.  Last season, Odorizzi posted a record of 0-1-1 with a 3.94 ERA in 4 starts and 3 relief appearances.

Odorizzi got the save in his only appearance against the Yankees in 2013.  This season, he is 1 -1 in 3 starts (including his last) against New York.
