Big right-hander Brandon McCarthy (4-1) will be making his seventh start since being traded to the New York Yankees when he faces Alex Cobb (7-6) and the Tampa Bay Rays on Friday night.

Brandon McCarthy lost his first start as a member of the Yankees last weekend when he was beaten by the Cleveland Indians at home. He pitched pretty well in that game, though, by giving up just two runs in 6.1 innings and striking out eight while walking no one. He now has a 4.31 ERA on the year and he has given up 172 hits in 146.1 innings.

Rays veteran Ben Zobrist has hit a home run off of McCarthy, but he is just 3-for-16 overall against him with two strikeouts. Catcher Jose Molina is 3-for-10 against him with a double and two strikeouts.

Alex Cobb had a solid start against the Chicago Cubs on Sunday, but he had to settle for a no decision in a game the Cubs won 3-2. Cobb pitched six innings in that game and gave up just one run on six hits while walking no one and striking out six. He has given up just 98 hits in 108.1 innings this season and currently owns a 3.41 ERA.

Yankees outfielder Jacoby Ellsbury has three hits in 13 at-bats against Cobb with a home run and two RBI. Derek Jeter is just 1-for-9 against him with no walks an a strikeout.
