In a game that should attract plenty of Japanese media attention, Masahiro Tanaka will be pitching for the New York Yankees on Tuesday night and will face Hisashi Iwakuma of the Seattle Mariners.

Masahiro Tanaka picked up his third win in a row and his ninth win overall when he beat the Oakland Athletics last week at home. He went six innings in that outing and allowed just one run on five hits while walking one and striking out four. Tanaka has certainly lived up to expectations this season. Through 12 starts, he is 9-1 with a 2.02 ERA and he has only given up 68 hits in 84.2 innings.

This will be the first time that the Mariners will face Tanaka. So far this year, right-handed hitters are batting just .206 against him, and he is holding left-handed hitters to a .229 batting average.

In his last start, Hisashi Iwakuma pitched seven scoreless innings against the Atlanta Braves and picked up his fourth win of the season. He allowed just six hits in that outing and walked no one while striking out seven batters. Through seven starts, Iwakuma has a 4-2 record and has only given up 43 hits in 50.2 innings of work.

Veteran outfielder Ichiro Suzuki has just one hit in eight at-bats against Iwakuma in his career, while Derek Jeter is 4-for-6 against the right-hander and is the only Yankee to hit a home run off of him.
